¡¡¡¡Dalian University of
Foreign Languages (DUFL), located in the centre of the city proper,
was founded in 1964. It is the only tertiary institution of foreign
language studies in the northeast of China. It consists of the School
of Japanese Studies, the School of English Studies, the School of
Chinese Studies, the International School of Tourism, the International
School of Arts and Design, the International School of Economics
& Law, the Russian Department, the French Department, the German
Department, the Korean Department, the National Training Centre
for Candidates Going Abroad, the School of Continuing Education,
the International Training School, the Department of Social Sciences
and more than 20 research institutes, with a total enrollment of
12,000 students. DUFL is an international university with the enrollment
exceeding 800 international students of various levels and of different
durations. It has established exchange and cooperative ties with
over 60 universities and research institutions.
¡¡¡¡Dalian University of Foreign Languages has various majors, each
having its own characteristics. The School of Japanese Studies is
currently the largest base of teaching and researching Japanese
language and culture out side Japan, with the number of faculty
and students ranking the top in this country. Its academic research
and teaching sufficiency cherishes excellent reputation both at
home and abroad. The School of English Studies is the largest full-time
faculty in Dalian University of Foreign Languages and it is an important
base of academic research and teaching of English language in the
northeast of China. The Russian Department, having extensive ties
with countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, has been
growing steadily in the recent years. German Department and French
Department are the only of such in the northeast of China. Korean
Department, having potentials in the future, is the only institution
offering a five-year program of bilingual tourism major in China.
The School of Chinese Studies has always been the largest base of
teaching Chinese language and culture. The International School
of Tourism & Hotel Management, the International School of Arts
& Design, the International School of Economics & Law and
the International Training Scho, newly established though, are showing
their vitality. Dalian Universityol of
Foreign Languages, having majors of economics, trade, management
and engineering etc. while centering on humanity, is striving to
become a new type of university of its own characteristics and advantages
in the northeast of China.
