¡¡¡¡The School of Chinese
Studies cherishes an experienced and learned faculty. Currently
it has nearly 70 full-time and part-time teachers, with Prof. Xu
Jiashen as the academic head, constituting a group of knowledgeable
professors, PhDs and MAs, most of whom have acquired Certificate
for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language and have the experience
of teaching Chinese overseas, such as in the USA, France, Italy,
Russia, Japan, Korea and Poland, thus having accumulated a completion
of pedagogical methods in teaching Chinese to International students.
With the advanced teaching ideas of stressed ability in communication
and supremacy of functionality, the School of Chinese Studies features
its own characteristics in pedagogical practice, thus accelerating
the students¡¯ acquisition of communicative language and Chinese
for other majors. The diversity and flexibility of pedagogical methods
entails excellent consequence. Students from SCS have won top prizes
for command of the Chinese language in national, provincial and
municipal contests for international students that as well contribute
to our influence in the area of Chinese teaching. Teachers from
SCS have a commendable ability in academic research and, with the
Research Institute of Sinology as the backbone, have made a fruition
of achievements. They have submitted treatises and presented themselves
at symposiums sponsored by China¡¯s Society of Teaching Chinese
as a Second Language and International Society for Chinese Language
Teaching, as a result they took away some of the prizes. The research
orientations are Chinese grammar, pedagogics for teaching Chinese
as a foreign language, analysis of prepositions and errors etc.
¡¡¡¡Teachers from SCS do not only participate in the editing of
textbooks advocated by the National Office of Teaching Chinese as
a Foreign Language, but also have initiatively edited textbooks
such as ¡°Chinese ABC¡±, ¡°Functional Chinese Dictionary for Foreign
Learners¡± and ¡°Teaching of Sub-conventional Chinese¡± etc.
¡¡¡¡ Part-time teachers also form an important part of the faculty.
They are mostly experts from other well-known universities and artists
from Dalian Peking Opera Troupe and Dalian Songs & Dances Troupe
etc.
